“Just think a moment about what is happening right now. In 25 years, your children and grandchildren will read [about this coup], as now people read about the 1953 overthrow of Prime Minister of Iran Mohammed Mossadegh. Does it not seem to you at some point that this can happen in Caracas and Kiev, or actually in Ankara, Damascus and Baghdad?”

UPDATE — According to James Woolsey, former Trump National Security Adviser Michael Flynn met with representatives of the Turkish government in September 2016 to discuss ways of sending — illegally — Fethullah Gulen back to Turkey to face charges.
President Erdogan has accused U.S.-based cleric Fethullah Gulen to be the mastermind of last summer’s failed coup in Turkey and wants him to be extradited.
People close to President Erdogan’s administration have paid Mike Flynn’s consulting company more than US$ 500,000 to help with this matter. The former National Security Advisor had in fact written an opinion piece arguing that Gulen should be deported.
On September 19 2016, Flynn — as a representative of Flynn Intel Group — met with senior representatives of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s government, including the son-in-law of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.
The “dead of night” operation was intended to circumvent normal U.S. extradition laws, Woolsey said.
Woolsey said he arrived late only to be startled and alarmed that the discussion was treading into potentially illegal territory.
The plan, according to Woolsey, was “a covert step in the dead of night to whisk this guy away.”

Lawrence Wilkerson was the chief of staff of former US Secretary of state Colin Powell. Wilkerson does not mince words about the attempted coup in Turkey.
“I think it is undeniable that John Brennan and others knew about what was happening in Turkey, and it is clear that the USA had to do something.”
“Either we are internally advised to refrain from doing so, which happens from time to time, or, conversely, greatly contributed to this, or something between.”
