UPDATE (April 16 2019) — This story is not over, far from it… Gen. Michael Flynn’s former business partner Bijan Kian has been charged with conspiring with the former national security adviser and a Turkish national, Karim Alptekin, to act as unregistered agents for Turkey.
Flynn managed to escape charges in the Turkey-focused case. He asked for his own sentencing to be delayed as he is expected to be the government’s star witness at his former partner’s trial.
U.S. District Court Judge Anthony Trenga ruled that Bijan Kian is entitled to notes and other records produced by several lawyers working for Flynn’s now-defunct consulting firm, Flynn Intelligence Group.
END of UPDATE
Former CIA Director John Brennan, former CIA Deputy Director David Cohen and Henri Barkey, director of the Middle East Program at the Wilson Center, are among the people investigated.
Former CIA analyst Graham E. Fuller is also listed among the suspects. Fuller — a former vice chairman of the National Intelligence Council at the CIA — allegedly was a sponsor for Gulen when he applied for a US residence permit.
These US individuals are accused of collaborating with the FETO group [“Gulenist terror group”] to overthrow President Erdogan.
The Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office in Istanbul plans to investigate these individuals’ entry to Turkey, their meetings while there, and any ties to Turkish expatriate Fethullah Gulen.
President Erdogan has accused U.S.-based cleric Fethullah Gulen to be the mastermind of last summer’s failed coup in Turkey and wants him to be extradited.
According to James Woolsey, former Trump National Security Adviser Michael Flynn met with representatives of the Turkish government in September 2016 to discuss ways of sending — illegally — Fethullah Gulen back to Turkey to face charges.
In a message posted on August 15 2016, Trump claimed that he had evidence that the CIA was involved in the July 15 2016 attempted coup.
According to Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson — Chief of staff of US Secretary of State Colin Powell — the CIA played a role in the failed Coup. “I think it is undeniable that John Brennan and others knew about what was happening in Turkey, and it is clear that the USA had to do something,” Wilkerson said.
European Intelligence agencies do not believe that Gulen was involved in the Coup. In an interview with news magazine Der Spiegel — published in March 2017 — BND [German Foreign Intelligence] head Bruno Kahl said: “Turkey has tried to convince us of that at every level but so far it has not succeeded.”
About Henri Barkey, an expert on Turkey’s affairs. Turkey media have alleged that Barkey is a former CIA agent.
Henri Barkey is the Director of the Middle East Program at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. He is the former Bernard L. and Bertha F. Cohen Professor at Lehigh University.
He served as a member of the U.S. State Department Policy Planning Staff working primarily on issues related to the Middle East, the Eastern Mediterranean, and intelligence from 1998 to 2000. [Wilson Center]
Barkey is also a close friend of Graham Fuller, a former CIA officer who had also given reference for Gülen to receive a green card.
According to the records from Atatürk Airport, Barkey arrived in İstanbul at 10:24 on July 15th and departed at 04:05 on July 19th.
About Graham Fuller (born November 28, 1937) is an American author and political analyst, specializing in Islamic extremism.
Fuller is former CIA officer who served as Station Chief in Kabul and Turkey for the CIA.
He was the vice-chair of the National Intelligence Council. A “think piece” that Fuller wrote for the CIA was identified as instrumental in leading to the Iran–Contra affair.
There is a rumour that Fuller intervened among different organizations to pave the way for Fethullah Gülen’s residence in USA.
Gulen and Fuller have carried out some investigations into Kurds’ matters.
Fuller has indeed a strong interest in Turkey geopolitics. His daughter goes by the name of Samantha ANKARA Fuller.
Henri Barkey and Fuller co-authored a book: Turkey’s Kurdish Question.
[At this point, it is not obvious that Fuller actually attended this meeting.]
On Michael Flynn: “ILLEGAL, DISTURBING, CONCERNING and CONFUSING”
Former Director of Central Intelligence Agency, James Woolsey discusses his encounter at a foreign agency meeting where he overheard former President Trump’s National Security Advisor, Michael Flynn making deals with Turkish officials.
